Captain waited until tanker was one mile away before bid to avoid crash, trial hears

A container ship captain accused over a fatal crash off the East Yorkshire coast saw an oil tanker up ahead on his radar but waited until it was one nautical mile away before attempting to avert disaster, a court has heard.
